Consumption composites

“Ours is a culture based on excess, on overproduction; the result is a steady loss of sharpness in our sensory experience.”

Susan Sontag

The term ”waste” could have two possible meanings. It could mean something expended extravagantly and carelessly, or it could mean discarded material no longer useful from the result of a process. My master examination project at Konstfack is an exploration about these two definitions and the two realities behind them.

Waste could be a mirror in which we can see ourselves, reflect about our habits, what we consume and the way we live. It is interesting if we could remember how we felt at the moment of buying; was it exciting or did it fulfill some dream or was it just one more thing in the bunch that we already have?  Probably it was full of all kinds of experiences and memories that are no longer anymore.

Home sweet home

I don’t know how to begin or to explain. At first I really missed you and the village. My journey to a better life began two years ago. It was really interesting meting important people in fancy places. I spend around 30% of my life waiting such a long time in airports traveling from town to town around the world and staying in hotel rooms.
A friend helped me to buy the furniture of my apartment, well she actually chooses it for me she bought also all the things for the kitchen. The room was fully furnished; there were even some pictures and decoration in it I didn’t have to worry about anything. I almost never use the kitchen just to make some simple dinner like crumbled eggs…
We were told life was easy a good job, a nice house, a pleasant life.
